The Best Daddy In The World

I wish that for a minute
or a Day
I could say,
Face to your loved face
my heart's place
and ALL that's in it.

So long ago it seems
that you were here
my Daddy dear
and we could share
our worldly cares
and hopes and dreams.

When I was only three
you brought
and taught
the basics of a bond
that I soon found
Would form the core of me.

The many humble toys
a mirror
or a gear;
coated pictures and letters
so I could learn better;
sooner than other girls and boys.

The letters became words
so handy;
More than candy
They've been sweet to know.
You were proud that I could show
your light. Ah yes - I heard.

The dark years where we once
were three
now you and me.
Mother, Father you had to be two
I know and hope you knew
that in a million - you were the one !

But when we sang together
what was tragic
worked some magic
Together we crooned, "smile the while,
you kiss me sad adieu" with a style
that changed the clouds to sunny weather.

An ordinary Dad?
Oh no -
not so.
An extraordinary, and really good man
From heaven you still hold my hand.
The best Father a girl ever had.

I miss you a lot, you know.
And say
This Fathers' Day
I was your special and only little girl;
You were the best Daddy in the world !
Thank God I had time to tell you so.
