SAGA OF TWO WOLVES
Part 2: The Pack

As One-Wolf and Brother-Wolf journeyed, the rest of the pack listened, watched and waited as the saga of One-Wolf and Brother-Wolf unfolded.

Some were confused as they were just becoming attuned to the spirit of the pack. Some sat, waiting and ready to follow into the dark cave, if that was to be the safest and warmest way, as Brother-Wolf’s instincts had always been true, always certain that One-Wolf would take heed of Brother-Wolf’s warning. After all, they were brothers and conjoined spirits.

Some expressed that their heart was and always would be with Brother-Wolf and, having had first hand knowledge of the nature of the outcasts’ camp, were wary while others fearlessly guarded the perimeter, vowing to protect the camp and the pack.

A female wolf, barren but instinctively maternal, prayed that the pack could remain as was, for the melding of the spirits brought joy, comfort and the sounds of this pack were music to her. Having been previously fooled into giving her food to the outcasts, she even whispered a plea to One-Wolf and urgently echoed Brother-Wolf’s warnings. The young female wolves showed their burgeoning strength and voice in the pack and the Alpha female, Brother-Wolf’s mate, watched and paced and as always with serene strength helped to keep the pack together.

The wolves in Brother-Wolf’s pack are both angry and sad that One-Wolf has chosen a treacherous path; they know the outcasts lure with gifts, and promise; bearing false witness in displays of the spirit wolves now behind the moon.

They have seen them absorb the good of many wolves and later discard the drained carcasses. The outcasts now have One-Wolf’s spirit hidden and held hostage behind this wall of deception so he cannot see and his spirit is lessened with the loss of Brother-Wolf.

Spirit and Souls are valuable resources to the outcasts and as the outcasts prey, the wolves in Brother-Wolf’s pack pray, that having compromised his spirit, the outcasts will not steal and sell One-Wolf’s soul. But One-Wolf was warned many times by Brother-Wolf, whose wisdom in these matters is renowned, and yet he took no heed.

Some in the pack see Brother-Wolf as he looks at the moon now, and know he sees much in the face of the moon - he sees the past and has great vision. Now, when they hear him talk to the moon, they listen and understand that he feels even more in the canyons and valleys of his heart. He has taught them and they sometimes cry silently for him - with him.

The pack will follow Brother-Wolf for he has nurtured them. He has noticed each and every wolf; brought the ones who stayed near the back of the pack gradually closer. He has sought and found value in the eccentricities and talents of some, and brought back those who strayed a little too far away from the camp. He has seen that the young ones are well fed, watched them grow, and taught them to feed their own young.

Brother-Wolf has nurtured the spirit of the pack. He has noticed each wolf, singled them out and made them feel special. He has loved them, and they follow in the path of love.
